We also did some more laundry as we were loving the washing machines! And then we headed over to see Kat and Ben. We met her sister Emily and new husband and they very kindly invited us over for dinner before the party. Kat, Ben, Ryan and I decided to head out in the weather to the lighthouse to look at the lashing waves and the very brave surfers. The weather was miserable and I really missed the sun. It looked like it could have been such a gorgeous spot if the sun was shining.
After a wander and a good catch up, we decided to grab a snack on the esplanade in Mooloolaba and Ben introduced us to their local pies. They had all types from steak, chicken and curry to sweet filled ones. We opted for a cottage pie pie! It was minced beef in gravy in a small pie case topped with mash potato.. it was perfect for the weather, we just needed a big sofa and a good ole film on the box to curl up to.
Anyway enough of that dreaming of being out of the rain. We dropped Kat and Ben off and headed back to ours to chill out and get ready for dinner. We drove over to Emily's and Jez had made a fantastic roast chicken dinner which we enjoyed on their deck. We had a couple of drinks and then headed out to Jez's brother Nat's. The party was at their house and everyone was really friendly. We enjoyed the free flowing bottles of Pink (pink fizz) and partied the night away. As tradition goes.. I got everyone to sing Auld Langs Syne in a circle.
At 3.30am we were ready to leave, and thought it would be a great idea to walk the 1hr back to our hostel. 5 minutes into the journey the heavens opened and it lashed down, soaked and therefore not as merry we got back at 4.30 and collapsed into bed - it was a good New Years eve, great to see old friends and meet new ones.
(this is Emily, Kat and me)
