Queenstown and a night by the lake.

After leaving the gorgeous Milford Sound at lunchtime, we stopped opposite one of the lakes and had lunch - soup and a sandwich and then got going as we had 4 hours ahead of us. We drove through Te Anau and headed north. We made good time and the views along the way were fantastic.. this is The Lord of the Rings country.
We stopped in town and did some laundry and had a quick wander around then headed out about 10km to the west. Because we were near a town we couldn't just stop on the side of a road for the night so we went to a DOC camp ground (same as we stayed in Mount Cook). We were right by Lake Wakatipu which was lovely apart from the sand flies.. they are little buggers, they bite and their bites itch for days. So we stayed in the van and had a picnic dinner and an early night. The lake view was gorgeous and the water was as clear as a glass of water, it was also special as we could also hear the lapping waves as we slept.
