The Sunshine Coast without the sun

So we land in Brisbane, Oz which is located just between the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast areas of Queensland (on the eastern coast line) and it is overcast with wind. We had hoped to get the car we had booked earlier but this was not possible so we had to cancel this booking and get another car to save waiting 10 hrs at the airport.

Off we headed up the coast and were surprised how American the place seemed, the roads, the buildings and even the friendliness of the people. We drove for about 1 hr and arrived to our destination at the hostel in Mooloolaba. Checked in and headed out for a little wander and then called my friend Kat as the reason we headed here was because she and her boyfriend Ben were there visiting Kat's sister for her wedding (following so far?). We planned to meet them around 7 which gave us time to settle in and organise some washing. The hostel had coin operated machines and we were so excited. It had been 9 weeks since we had used a machine as the last 6 weeks we had to send out to get it done and in India we were washing in buckets! Its amazing what travelling does to you that you get excited to see a washing machine.

We met up with Kat and Ben and it was fantastic to see them... to see friendly faces. We went for some tukka (Australian for food) at the local pub. Ryan and I were surprised how little of the beers we recognised. Most places on our trip there we knew most of the brews but in Oz it was another world. Fosters which is a popular Australian beer in the UK was nowhere to be seen here. After dinner and a great catch up we headed back to ours in the rain and went to bed early as we had not slept well on the plane and wanted to be awake to see in the New Year.
