The next morning the 17th we were up reasonably early and had a nice swim in the sea followed by more frisbee. As the sun heated up we settled into our books, sunbathed, played in the sea and did some interneting.
After showers we had a pretty good meal of chicken with cashews and garlic beef with rice. We then quickly paid the bill and were off to a tiny little bar that was only about 6' x 8'ft big. It was big enough though to have satellite TV and show the Man United game with a resounding 1 nil victory over Liverpool.
The following morning we decide to hire a motorbike to explore the Island, off we head to the other beaches near by. Many of them are very beautiful with powdery soft sand but not as nice as ours (of course). We head north to the main town which is about 12 km from where we are staying. There are a few market shops and sunglasses and a fairly large supermarket which we mingle around.
We grabbed some fried chicken and potatoes from a street stand which were really good especially when dipped in hot sweet chili sauce. Off we head south to the old town of Lanta. Is more like a one horse saloon town but given its on the coast I guess its suppose to look more like an old fishing town. The views out to the east are stunning and we can see distant islands with a strip on white sand fringing the emerald waters.
We head back crossing through the island so go up into some low lying mountains but stop briefly at a restaurant called Viewpoint and you can see why, islands stretch out in front of us and my camera struggled to get to get the whole picture. We then passed a butterfly garden which we were going to go into but they only had 10 species and didn't think it was worth it as we had seen that many already. Heading back to our room we stopped to get a couple beers and salty snacks to watch the sunset. With all the clouds and occasional rain we had not seen any stunning sunsets since the one in Cambodia on our drive to the border.
This night was much the same but we did see some cool light coming through the top of the clouds though we couldn't see the sun itself. Having been playing lots of Frisbee recently I must say we're getting quite good. Playing curves off the wind and getting the disc to float down from above the catcher is getting quite normal but Ryan nearly made legend status by nearly getting a running between the legs catch. Oh well maybe next time.
We enjoyed a quiet night as we were taking an early bus to Penang in Malaysia (the only other Malaysian option was KL which was too far south)
